Cape Town’s favourite street is thriving with the opening of more shops to enthrall both locals and visitors ahead of 2010. In one of the latest developments, 210 on Long, the dynamic shopping hub in Long Street has celebrated the opening of seven new shops in the mall. Since opening in February this year, the mall has drawn a variety of new talents. These include: Lemmi and Sipho, manufacturers of handbags, leather accessories and furnishings; Jellyfish, locally designed contemporary crafts and designs; Class of 09, a collaboration of young, fresh-out-of-fashion-school designers creating cutting-edge clothing ranges; LL Moog, a breakfast, lunch and cocktail bar for the young; Pepper Travel, an adventure travel company which provides experiences, events, services and advice on travelers to Cape Town; Beer Monkey, designers of witty t-shirts; and Loafers Eatery, a sandwich, salad and smoothie eatery.
‘’This diverse collection of new stores, with our existing shops, means 210onLong just got even more lovable,’’ say the 210onLong team.
Another must-see in Long Street over the big draw was the store featuring outstanding handmade products made in the Cape. The Cape Craft and Design Institute teamed up with The Bead Merchants at 223 Long Street, to showcase a treasure trove of soccer- and Western Cape-themed products, gifts and décor.
Stock ranged from bright soccer boots made of beads, with wire laces, to vuvuzela key-rings and 2010-inspired ceramics.
The CCDI, which creates much-needed jobs among craft producers, has caught soccer fever, so, in the months ahead, watch out for more crafts featuring the World Cup theme.
