Cape Town – a global design Capital? You bet. And we’re now bidding for it. Let’s work together to show the world why we deserve to be awarded World Design Capital 2014.
The bidding process is now officially open for the designation of World Design Capital 2014, according to the International Council for Societies of Industrial Design (icsid). The bi-annual award is bestowed by the icsid to cities dedicated to using design for their social, economic and cultural development. A World Design Capital designation gives a winning city global focus during a year-long programme of design-led events, and Cape Town is bidding for the 2014 opportunity. Previous winners have included Torino, Italy (2008), and Seoul, South Korea (this year’s title-holder) while Helsinki, Finland will be World Design Capital in 2012.
