The Cape Town Partnership’s Creative Cape Town in collaboration with The Cape Crafts and Design Institute and The Cape Peninsula University of Technology’s Faculty of Informatics and Design are planning a regular get together of designers from March until the end of the year.
This networking project is a one year initiative that assists the work of Creative Cape Town in promoting the Cape Town central city as a design centre through two key initiatives – The East City Design Initiative and Cape Town for World Design Capital 2014. It supports the Creative Cape Town Clusters initiative which enables creatives to network with each other in a relaxed environment and share experiences. The Clusters initiative takes various forms including a quarterly forum held in partnership with Woolworths, monthly breakfasts at Bird Cafe in Loop Street and now Cape Town Design Network 2010.
Each session will include a well known Cape Town designer/design team speaking about their philosophy and practise with occasional panel discussions related to the design industry in Cape Town. Designers will come from a broad range of design such as fashion, architecture, furniture design and more. The first speakers are Dot Dot Dot Ex Why Zed Design, an influential and award winning industrial design practise based in the central city. The company has produced such products as the Condom Applicator and the Snuza Baby monitor.
