Cape Town Lights Up

stad3More than 120 000 Capetonians braved the south-easter and came out in force for this year’s official Switching on of the Festive Lights in Adderley Street on Sunday 30 November.

The event, which traditionally kickstarts the city’s festive season, was part of the countdown to the December 4 Final Draw – and the lights featured a strong 2010 theme.

FIFA Secretary-General Jerome Valcke joined Cape Town mayor Dan Plato on the stage, along with South African defender Matthew Booth who greeted the crowds warmly and reminded them that next year will be a historic year for South Africa.

The evening was highlighted with performances by the Cape Minstrels, Loyiso, Jody Williams and the Rasta Rebels, to name just a few. But the highlight was, without doubt, the participation of the inimitable Capetonians themselves, who, in true form, loved every minute and danced the night away under the lights.
