This year’s final Creative Cape Town Clusters Forum, which took place in partnership with Woolworths on 11 November, was a well attended event with some great networking and talks. This event’s speakers all share something in common – they are creative entrepreneurs who have assessed gaps, seized opportunities, and taken their creative ideas to new heights.
Guto Bussab, a Brazilian who has been living in South Africa since we achieved democracy, spoke about the great number of opportunities that exist in this country and how surprised he is at the moaning and apathy that comes from South Africans.
To demonstrate how he has built his phenomenal career as a creative entrepreneur, he showed us how he built his Muti brand – as a photographer, filmmaker, gallerist and musician.
Guto has created an enviable portfolio of award-winning work and still makes the effort to do pro-bono work like the photography on the Creative Cape Town Annual.
Hannah Williams and Mark Henning did a lively input on the self-initiated research they have done to develop a public transport map for Cape Town, integrating bus, trains, mini bus taxis and BRT.
Ricky Lee Walters – who runs the dynamic young creative agency Word of Art and its non-profit section Write on Africa, showed us some of the many projects the company has been involved in, including his work on the Loeries activation of Long Street which he did for Creative Cape Town. Word of Art believes that “everyone is creative and that everyone is an artist” and if inspired can do great things.
Word of Art’s venue at 66 Albert Road has become a great creative space and hangout venue, with a number of artists’ studios based in the industrial building. They host exhibitions, drawing evenings and even movie nights on a regular basis. The evening was concluded with some lively networking between all the participants, aided by the copious wine and good food provided by Woolworths.
As an extension of the Creative Cape Town Clusters, a monthly breakfast session has been added to our menu of activities. Hosted at Bird’s Boutique Café (127 Bree Stree, 021-4262534), with a special Bird Café menu deal for our participants, three participants/organizations get an opportunity to share their plans and ideas with each other and with Creative Cape Town.
The space is there for quality and engaged networking and information sharing. Since Creative Cape Town is focusing on design for the next three years, we had three interesting individuals at our breakfast table on 26 November. Tau Tavengwa is an architect who moved into exhibition design and publishing and now works at the African Centre for Cities on its upcoming exhibition and publication – Counter Currents.
The project “showcases bold urban development initiatives by both the state and the private sector, with the aim of shifting public ideas and discourses about the kind of Cape Town we should be imagining and nurturing; a city that works explicitly with many unresolved contradictions and tensions but also strives to give expression to a number of core values such as sustainability, social justice, integration and creativity.”
This exciting project will be launched in February/March next year and Creative Cape Town and Cape Town Partnership are partnering with it.
Mokena Makeka is an architect and urban designer whose practice has seen him engaging with diverse projects like the Cape Town Station redevelopment and a community centre in Khayelitsha. His interest in culture has seen him engage in various initiatives like the Cape Africa Platform and more.
Trevor Mitchel works as Capsule Creative and has been involved in the creative scene in Cape Town from the early 90s with a number of innovative projects that draw from what edgy young creatives are currently doing on the ground in music, design and fashion. We had a vibrant discussion that took in our various projects and included especially the World Design Capital and some of the new photographers Trevor has been engaging with.
We left inspired and Trevor and Tau hooked up later to share more – that’s what it is all about! Big up to the great food at the Bird’s Boutique Café – do yourself a favor and check it out. The next breakfast takes place late in January.

Здаровеньки булы! Не беспричинно давнешенько у меня в компе вышла из строя интегрированная (встроенная) звуковуха, без звука стало подобный плохо =) решил прикупить отдельную звуковую карты, фтыкал всякие звуковухи, скажем аудиджи 2, сначала думал приобрести с разъемом писиай, только в конечном счете остановился на юсб – ибо удобнее т.к. звуковуху позволительно легко подключить к другому компу при случае, тон оказался 5.1 – мне совершенно хватает, 7.1 не нужно, всегда необходимые входы и выходы у неё лопать, аккорд бесподобный! имхо стал чище и мощнее по сравнению с подохшей интеграшкой.
