Film Clubs rule

There seems to be a rise in the film club scene in Cape Town. At the end of October, we saw the opening of the Pink Flamingo, a 35 seater rooftop cinema on the roof of Grand Daddy on 38 Long Street. On 4 December the Woodstock Industrial centre at 66 Albert Road started a regular video screening programme with a screening of Via The Back Roads (a tour of Africa covering skateboarders and BMXers) as well as Epitaph (faith47’s art making filmed in action by Rowan Pybus).

Shortcut is a new regular event showcasing independent and original short film projects and also includes discussion and sometimes a party. It takes place at the Speedway Café 105, Tafelberg Tavern, Roedehoek off Hope Street Street, Gardens. Find out more on facebook and make sure you catch the third edition entitled A Nightmare Before Christmas on 10 December from 7.30pm, which showcases filmmakers: Garrreth Bird, Ryan Kruger, Paul Blom, Marnus Tredoux, Raoul Dyssell, Meme and The Blackheart Gang. Special Guests include Flamedrop Productions (SA Horror Fest), CFX Productions & AR Dental (special effects make-up, prosthetics & fabrications), The Black Heart Gang and a live AV performance by Mr Sakitumi & The Grrrl!. The after party showcases Miss H & DJ Soulo Starr. There is a R30 Entry.
