Good African Vibrations

Cheikh Lo Senegal’s Cheikh Lo rocked the Cape Town Convention Centre on Friday 25 June, when the second Vibrations Continental Music Showcase brought its African flavour to the City. Cheikh Lo and his band made a one-off appearance in South Africa for this event, which also headlined South African singer Simphiwe Dana. The African flavour of this show was further spiced up by Joburg-based Nigerian guitarist Kunle Ayo, plus the Latin and Mozambiquan flavours of Tucan Tucan. Amongst the powerful up-and-coming talent being showcased are Khayelitsha’s Nomfusi & The Lucky Charms, and marimba maestro Bongani Sotshononda The concert also included debut appearance of young r ‘n b vocalist Zoe, and choreographed percussion from the Red Zebra ensemble.

As part of the programme, musicians were invited to attend a workshop at Vibrations Recording Studio hosted by Cheikh Lo, Simphiwe Dana, and Mpho Uvimba.

The show was supported by the national Department of Arts & Culture.
