MyCiTi, my bus ride

Take a quick, easy ride to top lifestyle, shopping, travel and tourist destinations in the CBD.
MyCiTti bus service launched new routes around the CBD on 14 May 2011. You can now hop on and hop off at designated stops on the Gardens, Waterfront and Civic routes. Creative Cape Town took a trip and saw the city from a new vantage point. (also, view the MyCiTi Civic/Gardens photo gallery on the Creative Cape Town Facebook page here.)

Have a look at a map of the Inner City routes

- Keep your eyes open for those iconic leaning red poles – this means you’re near a terminus, within reach of an easy bus ride.

- Notice how closely the bus pulls up in the main station? This makes boarding quicker, easier and safer.

- Assistants are on hand in case you’re confused, lost or have any questions.

- Commissioned art work brings the outside inside, and gives you something to think about before the bus pulls up.

- It’s not only adults that are excited about the new MyCiTi commute!

- Clear signage keeps it simple.

- Level boarding at the Terminus means no queuing onto the bus. Stations are designed to have 20 000 individuals pass through them easily in an hour.

- Maps on the bus make it easier to suss out where to hop off (or on). Creative Cape Town suggests the map be updated to include a listing of important streets near each stop.

- Friendly conductors (not drivers) take your tickets or your money. The average inner city ride is R5. On the city routes, you can conveniently buy ticket books for regular commuting. Just ask a conductor.

- On foot, Cape Town city is pretty and spread out; it’s helpful to know there are busses to take you across it more quickly.

- Safety signage is clear on all buses.

- It’s not only tourists who get to drive around the inner city in comfort, convenience and luxury!

- The buses elevation gives an interesting vantage point to snappy commuters – post your snapshots of your journey!

- On-board flat screens offer advertisements and information about Cape Town and its surrounds.

- Look for a blue roof– that’s your bus stop!

- Two icons in one shot. : increased integration in the inner city.

- Our favourite all-night pit stop in Gardens – the Woolies Engen on Orange St.

- The bus route understands your needs, and stops at key points.
