@Daddy Cool Bar, Grand Daddy Hotel, Long St
28th September 2010
Picture it. You’re standing on a black carpet leading into the calm hotel foyer. Take a quick trip in the antique lift that doesn’t make a sound, into passage with ambient lighting and flat screens flashing smart, arty photography. To the one side, a soft, cream coloured room at the mercy of Honey B’s smooth, sensual beats. People scattered around the chic couches, sipping, talking, and watching. On the other end the passage opens into a blue tinged party room. It’s pmping with dance beats, party people are smiling and posing, cameras are flashing, the dance floor is moving. Where are we? The Grand Daddy Hotel, guests at an experiential exhibition-cum-celebration of One Small Seed’s very own photo book, Picture This.
The party rocked over 3 days, giving Cape Town enough time to pop by. DJs included Jam Jarr, Narsh, Biscope, Roach (African Dope) and more. The Grolsch was free for a while, and the atmosphere was electric. Everywhere you turned; there was something to stare at, prints, moving screens, clumps of conversation mouthed about the music. Quite a gathering. But then, this was a celebration of something rather rare these days – an online magazine going to print. And it was a party for the people, in many senses –Picture This was originally inspired by the work of the OneSmallSeed.net community, a “thriving online creative networking platform”, with more than 25 000 images uploaded by members. Word up, Cape Town, you’re looking good.
