It’s nearly time for the seventh Suidoosterfees festival which runs from January 26 to 31 at Artscape.
Suidoosterfees 2010 will feature a range of audience favourites as well as some exciting newcomers aimed at entertaining all festival goers. Entertainment will range from jazz to gospel music, comedy, visual arts, films, classical music, theatre, arts, books and entertainment for children.
Stars at the festival include Lira, David Kramer, Nomfusi, Alistair and 7de laan loved ones Vinette Ebrahim, Zane Meas, Christo Davids, Theodore Jantjies and Terence Bridgett, to name just a few.
Among the highlights will be David Kramer’s Kaapse Breyani and Sandra Prinsloo in Die Naaimasjien – both of which ran to a full house last year.
Vinette Ebrahim and Theodore Jantjies in Vaselinetjie, directed by Henry Mylne, should also prove to be a hit. Other productions are: Krismis van Map Jacobs, directed by David Kramer, Neels van Jaarsveld in Bure oppie Bank, Terence Bridgett in All Soaped Up. Emile Minnie in Kaapse Karnaval, which should psyche audiences up for the Cape Town Carnival in March. Another highlight will be Gary Naidoo in a brand new episode of Poespas, entitled Sonspel. Among the new stars will be three times Sama winner Lira, the Black Tie Ensemble.
The movie offering will focus on District Six: the 13 hour-long documentary episodes are made up of archive footage, interviews and music directed by the late Taliep Pietersen. For a programme and further information, see www.suidoosterfees.co.za
