Spier Contemporary was launched in 2007 to provide visual and performance artists with a platform for showing their work, unhampered by the usual limitations of technology, space and access. Because artists in South Africa work under extremely varied conditions and see from radically different perspectives – which end up defining our collective identity and unique social and cultural landscape – Spier Contemporary gives artists the opportunity to explore this diversity and to provide audiences with insights into our wonderful complexity as a nation.
