Have a look at one of the ways in which a business is pro-actively bringing its clientele into the Fringe and building community through product-related events.
The Book Lounge holds a reading session every Saturday in its Children’s Books section downstairs. This often takes place alongside adults discussing books on the chairs provided.
Children are encouraged to listen, interact and be creative.
Some sessions involve art, from simple colouring in to constructing gift cards and other crafts.
Many parents have as much fun as the tiny tots, of course, but strictly under the auspices of ‘looking after’ their little ones…!
Play along at this and other bookish events at The Book Lounge.
We’ve also enjoyed Creative Coffee Mornings downstairs on occasion, with experts and authors coming in to host a veritable ‘professional’ book club that retains an informal atmosphere. See their posts here .

While we’re on the subject of giving long looks to books, remember that the Open Book Literary Festival is happening in the Fringe in September in partnership with Book SA. That should console the bookworms who were looking forward to the Cape Town Book Fair which is not taking place in 2011, but has carried over to 2012 to become a biannual book afFair.
