The St Georges Cathedral Memory and Witness Centre

Opening ExhibitionThe St. George’s Cathedral Memory and Witness Centre has started operating. Starting small with a big story, the centre has opened its first exhibition that focuses on the 13 September 1989 Peace March in which 30 000 people participated to protest about Apartheid and to herald in another order. The Peace march led by Bishop Tutu and the new mayor of Cape Town, Gordon Oliver would spark off hundreds of similar marches around the country. The photographs and the narrative from an extensive research process reveals a very fascinating story of which our city can be very proud of. A 20th Commemoration Event was held on Sunday 13 September 2009 at the Cathedral as part of the remembrance of the Peach March.
